Lake Forest Pulls Away in Second Half, Starts 2022 with Win over Wisconsin Lutheran

More news about: Lake Forest

The Forester football team rolled to a 42-7 victory over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

The Warriors scored the game's first seven points after traveling 63 yards in 10 plays on their first possession of the afternoon. They managed just 184 more yards the rest of the game, however, and never again got closer to the end zone than the Lake Forest 26 yardline.

Senior linebacker Javan Ah Quin, sophomore linebacker Nik Rieck, and freshman defensive back Thomas DeChesaro led the Foresters with seven tackles apiece. Senior defensive back Doug Antonucci recovered a fumble and blocked a punt in the second quarter and freshman linebacker Charles Fordon picked off a pass in the third.

The Lake Forest offense answered their guests' first touchdown drive with one of its own. The score came on a pass from senior quarterback Tre Stewart to senior tight end Alan Hanson from six yards out, capping off a 6-play, 65-yard trip down the field. It was Hanson's first career reception.

A 16-yard touchdown run by senior wide receiver A.J. Jackson 50 seconds into the second quarter gave the home team the lead and the score remained 14-7 for the rest of the half.

The Foresters went 90 yards in 10 plays on their first possession of the second half and the final nine yards came on a rushing touchdown by senior running back Damon Bonds. Senior tailback Armani Brown scored on a 6-yard run later in the period and the score was 28-7 going into the fourth.

Jackson caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Stewart on the first play of the final quarter and a 10-yard run to the pylon by sophomore running back Jayce Knutsen with 3:20 remaining closed out the scoring. Freshman kicker Beckham Sonnabend was 6-for-6 on extra points in the game.

Stewart passed for 202 yards, Bonds ran for 85, and Jackson caught four passes for 91 yards in the contest.

The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference title defense next Saturday at Lawrence University. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
