Gettysburg Drops Friday Night Contest at No. 20 Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.  – No. 20 Susquehanna University took over sole possession of first place in the Centennial Conference with a 47-7 win over visiting Gettysburg College under the lights at Doug Arthur Stadium Friday night.

Game Summary

  • First Quarter: Susquehanna scored on all three of its possessions, while holding Gettysburg to six total yards in the opening quarter. Ruisch completed a 17-yard touchdown throw to Lefever for the game's first score and Elijah Hoffman booted field goals from 39 and 29 yards to spot the hosts a 13-0 lead.
  • Second Quarter: The River Hawks recovered a muffed kickoff at the end of the first quarter and turned the short yardage into a touchdown toss from Ruisch to Kyle Good for a 19-0 lead. On the next drive, Gettysburg took advantage of a pair of first downs on penalties to score on a 31-yard touchdown throw by Stolarik to a streaking Viglianon on the right side. The speedy junior broke away from the defense for his team-best third touchdown reception of the season at 11:49. The Bullets recovered a fumble later in the second period, but were unable to capitalize on the turnover. Susquehanna added a touchdown reception with 2:23 remaining in the half and took a 26-7 lead into the locker room.
  • Third Quarter:  The River Hawks started the second-half scoring with a 78-yard touchdown toss from Ruisch to Lefever on the first play of their second drive in the third quarter. Susquehanna's defense held the Bullets to one first down in the period and the offense added another touchdown to pull in front 40-7.
  • Fourth Quarter: Susquehanna closed out the scoring with a final touchdown throw with 10:08 remaining. Gettysburg's defense held the hosts to just seven total yards on their final two possessions.

 
By the Numbers

  • Susquehanna out-gained Gettysburg 515-144 in total offense. The River Hawks tallied 298 yards through the air and 217 yards on the ground.
  • With Muhlenberg's 21-6 win over previously unbeaten Johns Hopkins Friday night, Susquehanna took over first place in the conference standings. The River Hawks play the Blue Jays (Oct. 30) and Mules (Nov. 6) in the coming weeks.
  • Vigliano has caught a touchdown pass in each of the last three games. The junior wide-out has turned in a catch of at least 30 yards in each of his last four outings.

Susquehanna picked up its third consecutive win over Gettysburg. The Bullets remain in front of the all-time series 10-7-1.
