Thomas More Sends Scafe and Seniors Off With a 56-7 Win Over Thiel

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College football team sent head coach Regis Scafe and the Saints' 23 seniors off on a good note today (Saturday, November 4, 2017) as it defeated Thiel College, 56-7, in the team's regular season finale at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints end the season at 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).  With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the PAC.

Thomas More never trailed in the game as it led 14-0 after one quarter, 21-7 at halftime and 35-7 after three quarters.

In the first half the Saints had a 16-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton), a nine-yard touchdown run by junior running back Luke Zajac (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) and a 40-yard touchdown catch by senior wide receiver Daylin Garland II (Newport, Ky./Newport).  Sophomore kicker Cole Mathias (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) converted all three point-after-attempts.

In the second half Zajac scored on runs of eight and three-yards, senior full back Cam Evans (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) scored on a two-yard run, junior tight end Ben Osborne (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) scored on a 30-yard run and senior wide receiver Jared Cook (Anderson, Ohio/Anderson) scored on a 36-yard pass from Kuntz.  Mathias made all five PATs in the half.

The Saints out-gained Thiel 523 yards (280 rushing/243 passing) to 93 yards (63 rushing/30 passing).

Kuntz was 14-of-22 passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns and also had two catches for 40 yards.  Zajac had 19 carries for 161 yards and three touchdowns, while also pulling in one catch for 12 yards.  Evans finished the game with 11 carries for 56 yards and one touchdown, while Garland finished with six catches for 67 yards and Cook finished with two catches for 43 yards.

Sophomore linebacker Adam Guard (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Pinecrest Academy (Ga.)) led the defense with 10 tackles (four solo/six assisted), including two tackles for a loss.  Senior defensive lineman Spencer Hemmer (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Covington Catholic) had six tackles (three solo/three assisted), including two sacks and senior linebacker Logan Galarno (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) finished with six tackles (three solo/three assisted), including one and half sacks.

The game marked the final game of coach Regis Scafe's 45 years of coaching.  His announced his retirement on October 16.  Scafe finishes with a 130-97 record in 22-years as a collegiate head coach with stops at Case Western Reserve University, John Carroll University and Thomas More.  He also spent 15 years coaching at Chanel High School in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
