(BETHANY, W.Va.) – The Thomas More College football team shutout Bethany College, 21-0, today (Saturday, October 28, 2017) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Bison Stadium in Bethany, West Virginia.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Bison fall to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the PAC.

The game was 0-0 at halftime and then Thomas More led 14-0 after three quarters.  The shutout was the Saints' first since September 5, 2015 when they defeated then 19th-ranked St. John Fisher College, 48-0 at BB&T Field.

Thomas More took a 7-0 lead with 12:40 to play in the third quarter when senior quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) connected on a 38-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Logan Winkler (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and sophomore kicker Cole Mathias (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) added the point-after-attempt.  The lead was extended to 14-0 when junior running back Luke Zajac (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) scored on a one-year run and Mathias added the PAT with 6:28 to play in the third stanza.

The Saints closed out the scoring with 14:22 to play in the game when first-year running back Dillon Powell (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored on a two-yard run and Mathias made the PAT for the final score of 21-0.

Thomas More out-gained Bethany 360 yards (225 rushing/135 passing) to 228 yards (107 rushing/121 passing).

Zajac had 19 carries for 132 yards and a touchdown, while junior running back Hjavier Pitts (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mt. Healthy) had 20 carries for 87 yards.  Kuntz was 11-of-18 passing for 135 yards and one touchdown and senior wide receiver Daylin Garland II (Newport, Ky./Newport) led the receiving corps with five catches for 61 yards.

Sophomore linebacker Adam Guard (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Pinecrest Academy (Ga.)) led the defense with nine tackles (eight solo/one assisted), including one tackle for a loss.  Senior defensive back Jay DeMarcia (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) had four tackles (all solo), senior linebacker Nick Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had four tackles (all solo) and senior defensive back Johnny Lammers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) finished with four tackles (three solo/one assisted).

Thomas More will close out the 2017 season next Saturday (November 4) when hit hosts Thiel College at 12 p.m. on Senior Day and Regis Scafe Day at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  The College will honor the team's seniors prior to kickoff and retiring Head Coach Regis Scafe after the game.
