KING'S GRIDDERS FALL AT DEFENDING MAC CHAMPION ALBRIGHT, 27-7

READING -- Junior quarterback Alec Vignola completed 25-of-33 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns as defending Middle Atlantic Conference Albright College posted a 27-7 victory over King's  College Saturday in Reading.

With the win Albright improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the MAC while King's slipped to 2-3 and 2-2.

Albright reached the scoreboard first following a King's punt on the first possession of the game. The Lions marched 65 yards on 14 plays, capped by a two yard pass from Vignola to Vinny Williams. Kevin Goetz added the point after as the Lions took a 7-0 lead with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter.

After a King's punt, the Lions struck again, moving 64 yards on six plays, ending with an 18-yard scoring toss from Vignola to Milton Cordero. Goetz's kick pushed the score to 14-0 with 0:27 left in the period.

On King's next possession the Monarch reached the Albright 37 but after a fourth-and-seven play failed, the Lions took over on downs.

Albright then proceeded to advance to the King's 28 before the drive stalled, but Goetz drilled a booming 45-yard field goal to put Albright ahead 17-0 with 8:39 left in the half.

In the third quarter, the Lions took the second half kickoff and added to the lead with a 10-play, 86 yard drive as Vignola hit Williams with a 36-yard strike to push the lead to 24-0.

The Monarchs finally got on the board its next possession when quarterback Zack Whitehead found Corey Flynn for a 46-yard gain, then followed up with a 21-yard touchdown run. Mikhail Kniaziewicz made good on the conversion as the Monarchs cut the lad to 24-7 with 9:32 to go in the third quarter.

Albright would counter, though, on its ext possession when the Lions moved to the King's 15 before the drive stalled. But Goetz came on to add three more points with a 32-yard field goal to up the score to 27-7 with 11:44 left in the contest.

Neither team would score the rest of the way.

Albright outgained King's 456-219 in total yards, running 80 plays compared to 54 for the Monarchs.

Williams had 11 catches for 129 yards and two scores while Jackson added six receptions for 66 yards. Cordero chipped in with four catches for 48 yards and one touchdown.  Roemello Monroe led the Albright ground game with 75 yards on 15 carries while Vignola added 42 yards on eight attempts.

For King's, Whitehead completed 18-of 36 passes for 168 yards and was sacked on four occasions. He also led the Monarch running game with 41 yards on 12 carries. King's ground game never got untracked as Albright held the Monarchs to just 51 rushing yards.

Palmer led King's receivers with four catches for 34 yards while Flynn added three receptions for 61 yards. Tyler Marroni, Marquis Miller, and Alvonte Thompson also had three catches apiece.
