UW-Whitewater Football Releases 2016 Schedule

More news about: UW-Whitewater

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team has announced its 2016 schedule.

Season ticket and parking information will be released after July 1.

The Warhawks, winners of six of the last nine NCAA Division III national championships, will kick off their 123rd season of competition on Saturday, Sept. 3, against The College of New Jersey at noon at Perkins Stadium.

The team's home opener is one of six regular season contests to be played at Perkins Stadium. TCNJ finished 4-5 a season ago, and the Warhawks won the only other meeting between the two teams, 48-0, on Sept. 20, 2014, in Ewing, N.J.

UW-Whitewater continues non-conference play Sept. 10 against Belhaven (Miss.) at 1 p.m. After a bye week, the Warhawks welcome NAIA powerhouse Morningside (Iowa) to Perkins Stadium on Sept. 24 for Hall of Fame and Alumni Day at 1 p.m.

Belhaven, which was in its first season competing at the Division III level a season ago, finished with a 2-8 mark, including a 62-6 setback at home against UW-Whitewater on Sept. 12, 2015.

Morningside, a member of the NAIA, reached the NAIA Championship Series national semifinals, falling 30-27 against Southern Oregon to finish with a 12-2 record.

The Warhawks and Mustangs engaged in one of UW-Whitewater's most memorable games in 2015, when both programs were ranked No. 1 in the nation at the time of the contest. Trailing 30-26 with 4:19 to play, the Warhawks drove 75 yards in eight plays, and a six-yard touchdown run by Jordan Ratliffe gave the team a 33-30 road victory and extended the program's then-college football best win streak to 35 games.

UW-Whitewater begins Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Oct. 1 at UW-Platteville. One week later, the Warhawks host UW-Oshkosh, last season's WIAC champion and a national quarterfinalist, during UW-Whitewater's Family Fest at 1 p.m.

The Warhawks and Titans split a pair of games last season. UW-Oshkosh snapped UW-Whitewater's 36-game win streak by a 10-7 score on Oct. 10, 2015, in Oshkosh.

The two teams met again in Oshkosh in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. The Warhawks thwarted a two-point conversion that would have tied the game and held on fourth down with 1:08 remaining to pull out a thrilling 31-29 victory.

Following a trip to UW-La Crosse on Oct. 15, UW-Whitewater hosts UW-Stevens Point for Homecoming on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.

The Warhawks close out the regular season with two of their final three games on the road. They visit UW-Eau Claire Oct. 29, host UW-River Falls on Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. on Shriners and Senior Day and wraps up the regular season Nov. 12 at UW-Stout.

Last season, UW-Whitewater reached the semifinals of the NCAA Playoffs for the 10th time in the last 11 years, falling at eventual national champion Mount Union (Ohio). The Warhawks finished the 2015 season with a 12-2 record, including a 6-1 mark in WIAC play.
