ALLENTOWN, Pa. – At the 2015 Globe Bowl at Salisbury High School in mid-April, Maritime football senior Greg Caneparo (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) was selected as the offensive most valuable player for one of the two all-star teams participating in the event.
 
"It was an awesome opportunity to play in the 2015 Globe Bowl," said Caneparo. "I had the chance to play with some top Division I and II players, as well as pro free agents, and it was a great test for me to see where I stood against players from other teams and areas."
 
Caneparo helped the white team upend the red team by a score of 24-14, and chipped in with a three-yard touchdown score to put his side ahead by a 14-0 mark in the first half.
 
"It was a great honor and blessing to both play and be named as offensive MVP," Caneparo added.
 
In addition to the offensive MVP accolades given to Caneparo for the white team, team defensive MVP went to Frank Gaffney of Division III Lebanon Valley. The red team's offensive MVP was Nahum Purdie of Division II Cheyney, while the red team's defensive MVP was Brandon Ross of Ave Maria University.
 
Overall Globe Bowl MVP went to Jamil Robinson of Division I Lehigh, while other awards given out included overall lineman MVP that went to Brandon Keller of Mount St. Joseph, while special teams' accolades went to Ira Jewitt of Louisiana College. Game ball went to Zachary Guy of New Haven, while Justin Gomez of La Verne and Craig Geoghan of Stony Brook picked up Honorable Mention MVPs.
 
Maritime's senior running back finished his career last fall third in all-purpose yards with 2,115 to his credit. He is also 10th on Maritime's all-time rushing list with 780 yards, and is tied for fifth all-time with 305 receiving yards, he is also first all-time in punt return yards with 287 in his four seasons with the team.
 
This past year, Caneparo was picked as an honorable mention for his role as a return specialist as well as a running back. As a return specialist he finished the season with 223 return yards on nine kickoff returns, which included a season-best 40-yard return against USMMA. In his role in the Privateer backfield, Caneparo was 10th in the league with 445 net rushing yards, including the fourth longest rush amongst ECFC backs this year for 71 yards.
