A battle of unbeatens between Muhlenberg and Ursinus turned out to be everything that was advertised, while St. John Fisher beat area rival Brockport in the Courage Bowl and UNE and Calvin picked up their first losses of the season. Check out more in the Week 5 recap.
Muhlenberg rallied in the final six minutes of the fourth quarter to turn an 11-point deficit into a three-point lead, then blocked a last-second Ursinus field goal to notch a 39–36 victory in a critical Centennial Conference matchup. Dante Mahaffey threw two of his three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter for the Mules. After surrendering the lead with 1:06 to play, Ursinus drove to the Muhlenberg 21-yard line with three seconds left, setting up a 38-yard field goal attempt that would have sent the game to overtime. Chris Holland blocked the kick to preserve the win. Mahaffey also led the Mules’ rushing attack with 116 yards on the ground, while Matthew Manning added three rushing touchdowns.
St. John Fisher won the Courage Bowl for the first time since 2016, knocking off Brockport 31–24 in overtime. Brockport forced the extra period with a 34-yard field goal by Zach McGowan at the end of regulation. In overtime, Mason Lister found Ethan Curtis for a 4-yard touchdown to give the Cardinals the lead, and on the Golden Eagles’ ensuing possession, Tyler Marks recovered a Ben Gocella fumble to end the game.
The University of New England brought its 4–0 record to Endicott aiming for the program’s first-ever win over a second straight CCC opponent, but the Gulls had other ideas, rolling past the Nor’easters 53–14. Endicott scored the first 34 points of the game and cruised from there, extending its conference win streak to 20 games. The Gulls’ ground game controlled the contest, as Markys Bridgewater and Bryan Ferreira each topped 100 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns. Joe Tirrell led a strong defensive effort with a team-high seven tackles, three for loss, and a fumble recovery.
Calvin’s 4–0 start also came crashing to an end as the Knights fell 55–6 at Alma. The Scots stayed atop the MIAA standings with a dominant performance led by Carter St. John’s 320 passing yards and five touchdowns. Zach Poff caught three touchdown passes and threw another as part of a 164-yard receiving day.
WPI mounted a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter, marching 84 yards on 11 plays over six and a half minutes to get past Norwich 14-7 . Aedan McDermott connected with Josh Castro for an 18-yard touchdown with 48 seconds remaining, breaking a 7-7 deadlock. Norwich had one final chance, advancing into WPI territory in the closing moments, but a last-second Hail Mary attempt from midfield fell incomplete to seal the Engineers' win.
Jack Curtis broke the Carleton career completions and passing touchdowns records, leading the Knights to a 45-28 victory over Gustavus Adolphus. A year after snapping a 27-game losing streak to the Gusties (0-4, 0-3 MIAC this season), the Knights picked up their first win in St. Peter since 1989. Curtis put together a 38-for-52 day for 378 yards, four touchdowns, and two picks. The senior now has 662 career completions, breaking Jonathan Singleton's '23 mark of 632. He also surpassed Singleton to top the passing touchdowns leaderboard, moving to 68 scores in his career.
Kayden White ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns as RPI scored 30 or more points for the third consecutive game, defeating Hobart 36-10. It the first time the Engineers have scored 30 or more three times in a row since 2019, and was RPI's first win at Hobart since 2015. RPI improved to 4-1, 2-0 in the Liberty League, while Hobart fell to 1-4, 0-2 LL.
Southern Virginia continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 35-22 victory over Greensboro in its USA South opener — marking the program's first-ever 4-0 start. A dominant defensive effort featuring two interceptions, including a pick-six, paired with an explosive passing attack, fueled the Knights' win. Devin Watson led the offense with 291 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Antoine Mills added a rushing touchdown.
Quarterback Anthony Mahaffey's first collegiate start was a memorable one. Engineering a 21-point comeback with the help of a ballhawking defense, Pacific Lutheran notched a 31-28 win against Willamette. The Bearcats scored on a halfback pass, a 65-yard TD pass and recovered an onside kick and scored to go up 21-0. PLU scored just before half, then Cole Becker got things rolling for the Lutes in the third quarter with a sack fumble and recovery to set the Lute offense up at the Willamette 6-yard line. Three plays later, Mahaffey hit Connor Meade in the end zone to knife the deficit to a single score. The PLU defense stopped Willamette on a fourth-and-1 at the 27-yard line before Will Frank intercepted a pass at the 25-yard line. PLU capitalized, tying the game after Mahaffey hit Jase Ellamar for a 70-yard touchdown.
